Esteban Ocon opens up about the aftermath of his Miami crash: “I was urinating blood and feeling dizzy for days”. Esteban Ocon revealed the shocking physical consequences he suffered after his heavy crash at the 2022 Miami GP.

Esteban Ocon, 2024 F1

Three years after the incident, Esteban Ocon has opened up about the serious aftermath of his crash in Miami. Formula 1 is known for its speed, overtakes, and excitement, but it’s also an extremely dangerous sport. Even a seemingly minor impact can lead to significant damage — not only to the car but also to the driver’s health. That is exactly what Esteban Ocon experienced after his 2022 crash at the Miami Grand Prix, an accident that left him struggling with unexpected physical consequences.

Ocon recalls the violence of his crash

The French driver explained: “I’ve had a few serious accidents. Touch wood, none of them have ever been too violent, although some exceeded 40G and nearly knocked me out. Sometimes my vision went blurry, or I had headaches for three or four days…”

In particular, Esteban Ocon went into detail about what happened in Miami. During that 2022 season, he was driving for Alpine, and like the rest of the grid, he was tackling the brand-new Miami International Autodrome for the first time, as the race made its debut that year.

The 42G impact at Miami

The crash occurred on Saturday during the third free practice session. “I reached 42G,” Ocon recalled. “For anyone watching that crash, it doesn’t look that impressive. I went off track and hit a concrete wall. I banged both of my knees.” The impact left him in immediate pain — it took him about a minute and a half to get out of the car, and once he was out, he could barely walk.

The real problems came the next day

However, the worst consequences appeared the following morning, on race day. “I remember the next morning I was in the shower, and I fainted. I lost my balance and fell over — I wasn’t feeling well at all. On top of that, I was urinating blood. It wasn’t great,” he revealed.

Despite not being in perfect physical condition and starting from the back of the grid, Esteban Ocon still managed to deliver a remarkable race performance. He finished eighth, a result that was nothing short of impressive considering the physical challenges he faced throughout the weekend. His determination and endurance underlined the toughness and resilience that define Formula 1 drivers, reminding fans that behind every race and every point scored lies a world of unseen struggle and sacrifice.
