Ralf Schumacher criticizes Stroll: “Fornaroli deserves it more than Stroll”
According to the former German driver, 27-year-old Lance Stroll no longer deserves a place in the F1 Circus, unlike the newly crowned F2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli.
Aston Martin 2026
The 2026 season will bring major changes not only for Formula 1 as a whole but also for a team like Aston Martin. The Silverstone squad will, for the first time, rely on British engineer Adrian Newey as technical director, who will also take on the role of Team Principal, replacing Andy Cowell. In addition, the team will compete with Honda power units, replacing the Mercedes engines previously used.
Schumacher’s critique of Stroll
Michael Schumacher’s brother believes that the time for Lawrence Stroll’s son at Aston Martin has passed, citing his results, which lag behind those of Fernando Alonso—three podiums and one pole position—and a career-best 10th place in the Drivers’ Championship. “Logically, this is no longer acceptable,” Schumacher stated, later referencing Leonardo Fornaroli. “Honestly, when I see how well the Formula 2 champion has performed, he deserves to be in a car like this a thousand times more. I’m also curious to see what happens there, because, to be honest, even Lawrence Stroll cannot overlook this problem. In my opinion, he’s a candidate who shouldn’t be in Formula 1 anymore, certainly.”
The contrast between the veteran’s stagnant results and the explosive potential of a new F2 champion creates a narrative that Lawrence Stroll may find increasingly difficult to ignore as Aston Martin transitions into a factory Honda team. For Ralf Schumacher, the meritocracy of the sport must eventually prevail over family ties if the team truly harbors championship aspirations for the new era of Formula 1.
