Liam Lawson, the young New Zealand driver competing for the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls team in the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, has offered a detailed analysis of his performance at the Austrian Grand Prix. Following his impressive sixth-place finish at the Red Bull Ring, which marked his best result so far this season, Lawson emphasized that this is no time for complacency. Instead, he insisted that the team must keep pushing forward to build on the momentum.
With the 2025 Formula 1 season now reaching its halfway mark, the competitive hierarchy among teams has become more evident. However, according to Liam Lawson, there is still plenty of opportunity to improve and replicate strong performances in the remaining races. His result in Austria earned the team eight valuable points in the constructors’ standings and came at a critical moment, as the Racing Bulls team currently sits seventh in the championship. They now trail behind the Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber, who leapt ahead thanks to Nico Hülkenberg‘s unexpected podium finish at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone.
Speaking to the media, including GP-News.net, Liam Lawson offered insights into both his performance at the Red Bull Ring and his expectations for the rest of the season.
The 23-year-old Racing Bulls driver made it clear that the sixth-place finish was not to be seen as a final achievement, but rather as a performance benchmark the team must aim to match or exceed in future races.
“We’ll analyse everything and understand exactly what worked [in Austria], and then basically try to replicate that every single race weekend,” Lawson explained during his post-race interview. “Every circuit is different, so we need to keep developing. And with the schedule being so tight, there’s no time to settle for what we’ve already achieved.”
Lawson also touched on the unpredictability of race weekends in modern Formula 1, highlighting how critical it is to begin each Grand Prix with a solid foundation already in place.
“If you have a good session, if you start FP1 in a strong position, it doesn’t guarantee anything for the weekend because everyone struggles in practice,” he added. “Meanwhile, given how tight the timings are, it’s crucial that the work done before the race weekend allows you to start with a strong baseline and a car that’s in a competitive window. That makes it much easier to build from there. But if you begin the weekend far behind, it obviously becomes much harder to get the car into a good position.”
Liam Lawson’s disciplined and analytical approach reflects the determination within the Racing Bulls camp to continue climbing the constructors’ standings. Despite being a relatively new full-time entry in the 2025 season, Lawson’s performances are proving that the team is capable of challenging for points regularly—provided they continue to make the most of every opportunity.
