During the final race of the 2024 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, team introduced a completely redesigned front wing aimed at optimizing the car’s aerodynamic performance across varied conditions. However, after briefly testing the new configuration during Friday’s free practice sessions, the team reverted to the standard specification for the remainder of the weekend. Despite its limited use, the data collected from this test will play a crucial role in refining the aerodynamic package for future campaigns.
The New Design
The updates were extensive, targeting improved aerodynamic efficiency and better overall balance for the car.
The team reworked several components of the nose, including a reshaped tip. One of the most noticeable changes involved the internal flap arrangement, which now features a wider spacing at the connection point with the nose.
The mainplane geometry was also revised: the central leading-edge section is no longer angled upward, and the flap distribution was adjusted to align with the new design.
Updated Endplate
The connections between the wing elements and the endplate were completely redesigned. The mainplane now occupies a larger section of the junction area compared to the three rear flaps, which were modified into a “semi-detached” configuration. This adjustment enhances the outwash effect, redirecting airflow outward more efficiently than before.
The rear flap has also been further curved and angled, amplifying the outwash effect. As a result, the canards previously installed atop the endplate have been removed, with the flaps now managing airflow independently.
The endplate itself saw significant updates. Its previous squared design has been replaced with rounded edges at the front and top. Additionally, the flat surface was replaced with a diagonal incline to improve aerodynamic flow management.
Another noteworthy change involves the infrared camera on the endplate’s inner side. Once mounted high and forward, it has now been repositioned further back and lower, contributing to a more balanced aerodynamic package.
Racing Bulls’ goal is clear: to enhance performance for the 2025 F1 season, and these groundbreaking updates signal a strong step in that direction.
