Gasly reflects on Monaco penalty heartbreak and targets Spanish GP points
Reflecting on the psychological fallout of the previous race weekend, the French race winner opened up about the emotional rollercoaster his crew endured. “I left Monaco with a mix of conflicting emotions after what happened in the race. It’s a difficult situation to swallow, I will always ask myself what could have happened. I am really proud of how we raced in Monaco, and, as we know, I know the team is fighting hard, having requested the right of review,” Gasly commented.
Looking forward, the Alpine driver emphasized his complete shift in focus toward maximizing the performance of his package on traditional European asphalt. “Since then I’ve had a couple of quiet days and now my mind is focused on Barcelona. It’s a circuit we know well, where we have already done many laps with this year’s cars during the shakedown. I hope we can further improve the car’s performance and position ourselves in the points zone again,” he added.
Colapinto leans on junior category experience to fuel Barcelona resurgence
For his teammate, returning to a permanent racing facility offers a welcome technical reset after navigating the unforgiving barriers of Monaco. “The race in Monaco was challenging for me. This weekend we return to Barcelona and we are working hard to come back stronger,” Colapinto noted.
The young prospect highlighted that having baseline data from the winter months will prove immensely beneficial during Friday’s opening practice sessions. “For the first time this year, we are racing on a track we know well with the A526 thanks to the shakedown carried out in January. Since then the cars have evolved massively and obviously we know the regulations much better, it will be very interesting to hit the track on Friday and see the improvements we have made in a short space of time. I like this circuit and I have finished on the podium here in many of the championships I’ve raced in, I will make the most of those positive experiences to get the maximum out of every session,” he concluded.
