Pierre Gasly admits Alpine struggles: “Reaching the points with this car is tough”. Pierre Gasly admits Alpine’s current Formula 1 car makes it very difficult to fight for points.

Pierre Gasly, Alpine 2025 F1

No points again
The Monza circuit has always been special for Pierre Gasly, as it was here that he took his first ever Formula 1 victory in 2020 (driving for AlphaTauri at the time) and, more recently, signed his contract renewal with Alpine during last year’s weekend at the Temple of Speed. These memories, however, are in stark contrast with his personal results and those of the French team in the 2025 Italian Grand Prix, once again finished outside of the points.

Gasly’s honesty

Making the race even harder and limiting the chances of recovering to the top 10 was the team’s decision to fit a new power unit, which forced Gasly (like his compatriot Hadjar) to start from the pit lane. “We knew it would be tough, especially on a track like this that doesn’t really suit our car – he admitted after finishing 16th – we simply tried to stay on track as long as possible with the Hard tyres, hoping to benefit from a Safety Car or a red flag. It seems everyone had a clean race, so there were no incidents to take advantage of. At the moment, with the car we have, it seems very difficult to reach the points. The team is working hard, there is a great unity among everyone, even during this challenging period. We will keep pushing, do our best, take each race as it comes and see what we can achieve every time we go out on track.”

Other emotions one year ago
The Temple of Speed is a special place not only for Gasly but also for Franco Colapinto, who made his Formula 1 debut last year at Monza driving for Williams. However, the Argentine driver also had to deal with the difficulties of the A525, finishing 17th just behind his teammate. “It was a tough day, although we knew it would probably go this way on a track that doesn’t suit us. We lacked pace and struggled to make progress, which made the race feel quite long and without much action. We did our best by sticking to a conventional strategy, but in the end it was a difficult seventeenth place. Now we regroup and try to understand what we can do better next time. My goals remain the same: continue building on the experience gained in previous races, find ways to progress with our car, and give it everything. We now have about a week to focus on the next race in Baku. I will be with the team in Enstone to prepare and hopefully keep moving forward.”
