Sergio Perez’s departure from Red Bull
Sergio Perez will not be a Red Bull driver, and he probably won’t be an F1 driver at all in 2025. With the hiring of Liam Lawson to replace him alongside Max Verstappen and the Racing Bulls seat likely going to Junior Team driver Isack Hadjar, the grid for the upcoming World Championship is already complete. This could mean, at the very least, a sabbatical year for Checo, or even a definitive retirement from F1—an option not mentioned in his farewell letter to the team but one that his father, Antonio Perez, admits is possible.
Antonio Perez speaks
Antonio Perez Garibay, Checo’s father, acknowledges that his son does not have a ready-made plan B. The Mexican businessman and politician, who has recently made headlines by promising to publish a list of journalists he considers untrustworthy, gave a brief interview to the Mexican edition of Fox Sports, confirming that his son will not be on the grid for the 2025 season. He also stated that the future now seems more complicated than a few months ago…
“There is no plan B, there is no plan C,” said Perez Sr. “So it’s a complete exit for Checo. Right now, the Formula 1 chapter is closing for us. In any case, even when he was let go by Racing Point (at the end of the 2020 season when his contract wasn’t renewed in favor of Sebastian Vettel), he didn’t have a plan B, and his F1 career seemed to be at an end. So, for now, there is nothing in the immediate future. We must accept it and allow him to enjoy his family.”
