Penalty-Filled Weekend
It was an absolutely forgettable weekend in Montreal for Racing Bulls, as both drivers had to deal with various penalties even before the race began. While Isack Hadjar (in the spotlight due to multiple market rumors ahead of the Canadian GP) had to serve a three-place grid penalty for impeding Carlos Sainz in qualifying, things went even worse for his teammate Liam Lawson, who started from the pit lane due to a power unit change.
PU Change Not Enough
Still, in the second half of the race, the team called the New Zealander back to the pits to retire the car. Liam Lawson explained the Faenza team’s decision as follows: “The race was already going to be tough starting from the pit lane, but we opted to install a new PU after a difficult qualifying. Unfortunately, a cooling issue toward the end of the race forced us to retire. It’s a real shame because the car’s pace this weekend was good. We’ll keep working on speed, and I’ll keep working on myself to reset ahead of Austria.”
No Points
It was also a tough Grand Prix for Isack Hadjar, who started 16th on the grid and crossed the finish line in 12th, ending a solid run of points finishes that began in Imola. “It was a tough Sunday here in Montreal,” he admitted. “At the start of the race, I had heavy graining on the medium tires and, unfortunately, I think we pitted a bit too late, which cost us a few positions. After that, I was stuck in a DRS train for the rest of the race and, toward the end, we didn’t have much pace, so we were overtaken by other cars. Since the beginning of the weekend, we’ve had some issues with the car, so we’ll review everything with the team and push harder in Austria in two weeks.”
