Steiner’s advice to Piastri: “If he doesn’t come back stronger, he should change teams”
On the podcast The Red Flags, Steiner shared his opinion on Piastri and the current title fight. He stressed that this is the moment for the Australian to return stronger or potentially evaluate leaving McLaren.
“Especially if he doesn’t win the championship, I think he has good chances of joining any other competitive team,” Guenther Steiner said during the interview. “He’s a good driver, and sometimes a change can do well. He’s still young, he can adapt. He should do it, and I think he will. That’s my opinion.”
When asked what Oscar Piastri should do if Lando Norris ends up as World Champion, Guenther Steiner replied:
“He just needs to reorganize during the winter and come back stronger than before. Otherwise, if he doesn’t return stronger, I think he should change teams. But he could also come back, because I still consider him a driver of great value.”
Guenther Steiner concluded with a brief comparison to Oscar Piastri’s direct rival, Max Verstappen:
“If you say Oscar is mentally exhausted right now, then Max will be ahead of him, absolutely. Max is motivated, as we saw in Brazil. He didn’t give up after a disastrous qualifying. He rolled up his sleeves, fixed things, and ended up on the podium.”
