Oscar Piastri brought his third Formula 1 season to a close by securing third place in the drivers’ championship. After dominating his direct rivals for much of the 2025 campaign, the Australian driver suffered a setback from which he was unable to fully recover in time to stay in the title fight.
His McLaren team-mate Lando Norris ultimately went on to win the world championship, with four-time world champion Max Verstappen finishing close behind in second place. Oscar Piastri ended the season just 11 points adrift of Max Verstappen, underlining how competitive the battle at the front of the grid was until the very end.
Despite the criticism he received throughout the year, both on social media and elsewhere, Oscar Piastri has expressed great satisfaction with his 2025 campaign. It has so far been the strongest season of his Formula 1 career, one in which he came close to fighting for the world title. The progress he has made compared to previous years has been clear and undeniable.
Oscar Piastri: “Something I will carry with me forever”
“There were many moments during the season that were a success, and many others that I remember with great pleasure,” Oscar Piastri said in an interview with 7Sport.
“The confidence that I found throughout the year, in myself and in my abilities, is something that I will carry with me forever,” the Australian driver added, reflecting on the personal growth he experienced over the course of the season.
Oscar Piastri also acknowledged that there is still room for improvement. “Of course, there are some things to work on, and a few moments that I would probably like to relive. I’m sure the team feels the same way,” he admitted.
Looking ahead, he remains optimistic about what lies ahead. “But all of this will make me stronger for the future, and hopefully we will still have many successful years ahead of us,” Piastri continued.
Oscar Piastri thanks Australian fans for their support
In addition to reflecting on his season, Oscar Piastri wanted to thank Australian fans for the support they showed him throughout the year, no matter where Formula 1 raced.
“During the European part of the season there are fewer fans,” he explained. “But the Australians who are there really make themselves heard. We’re not always the biggest group, but we’re almost always the loudest, and hearing that is fantastic.”
Oscar Piastri also highlighted races that feel closer to home. “There are also some races that are closer to home, like Singapore. The amount of support and the number of fans I saw in the grandstands throughout the year was really special.”
“Hopefully this trend continues,” he concluded.
