F1 | Breaking news – McLaren sold for over 4.1 billion dollars: the new owners
McLaren has officially changed hands in one of the most valuable deals in Formula 1 history. The legendary British team has been sold for an astonishing figure of more than 4.1 billion dollars. The announcement came as the team is on the verge of securing the constructors’ world championship for the second year in a row, bringing its total tally of titles to ten.
The Woking-based squad and its foreign partners confirmed the completion of negotiations to acquire full ownership of McLaren Racing. Details of the multi-billion-dollar deal highlight just how significant this transaction is for the future of the papaya-colored team.
The details of the acquisition
McLaren Racing has officially completed the sale of its shares. Mumtalakat, the sovereign wealth fund of Bahrain, together with CYVN Holdings, an investment group based in the United Arab Emirates specializing in the automotive and technology sectors, now hold 100% ownership of the team. Both groups were already major stakeholders in the squad, but this operation solidifies their position with full control. The overall deal is estimated at more than 4.1 billion dollars.
The sale was first reported by Bloomberg and later confirmed by McLaren CEO Zak Brown. Discussions had already reached an advanced stage in the early months of 2025 and intensified throughout September. Now, the process has finally been concluded, paving the way for a new chapter in McLaren’s long history. This new era begins on a high note, coinciding with the celebrations for the team’s Formula 1 constructors’ championship.
A new era for McLaren
This complete takeover is more than just a financial transaction. It signals a clear commitment to stability and long-term growth. For McLaren, a team that in recent years has experienced a strong revival, the deal ensures access to new resources, enhanced financial backing, and a more streamlined governance structure. These changes are expected to provide the foundation for even greater ambitions, both on and off the track.
With this acquisition, McLaren is better positioned than ever to consolidate its role as a powerhouse in Formula 1. The combination of financial strength and technical expertise could help the team chase new milestones, build on its resurgence, and compete at the very top of the sport for many years to come.
