Oscar Piastri is looking ahead to 2026 with clarity and awareness. After a season as one of the protagonists, the McLaren driver wants to capitalise on everything he has learned during his first years in Formula 1 in order to face the most delicate technical changes of the new regulations in the best possible way.
Having matured rapidly in a highly competitive environment, Piastri now approaches the future with a mindset that reflects both confidence and realism. The upcoming regulatory reset represents a major turning point for the entire grid, and the Australian is determined to arrive fully prepared.
Coming off a 2025 campaign that ended with a third-place finish after leading the championship for several months, Oscar Piastri feels he has found a crucial balance between qualifying performance and race execution.
“I think last year, for me, it was mostly about putting into practice much more often what I had learned…,” he explained.
Looking back at his own development, the Australian driver clearly identifies the key stages of his journey through Formula 1.
“In 2023, qualifying was probably better than my races. 2024 was the opposite, and in 2025 I feel I managed to be strong in both of the crucial moments of the weekend.”
This is a step forward that Oscar Piastri now wants to turn into something stable and repeatable over time, rather than a one-off peak.
“The goal is obviously to repeat those results… I think I have proven to myself that I can do it.”
With a completely new set of regulations on the horizon, Oscar Piastri knows that the real challenge will be transferring these improvements onto a fundamentally different car.
“The most important thing is understanding how to apply those principles to very different cars and to very different regulations.” – the McLaren driver pointed out.
The adaptation process has already begun, with the first on-track indications starting to emerge.
“We have a good base… now it is just a matter of identifying what the critical changes will be for this year, which we were able to see for the first time in Barcelona and which we will develop further in Bahrain.”
Oscar Piastri therefore approaches 2026 with a new level of awareness. He is no longer a young driver searching for confirmation, but a competitor capable of reading a race weekend, adapting to changing conditions and building performance step by step.
The challenge now is to transfer this maturity onto a Formula 1 car that is set to change its identity. If he manages to correctly interpret the critical points of the new regulations, Oscar Piastri could establish himself as one of the key references of the next era of Formula 1.
As the paddock transitions from the familiar ground of the past few seasons into the great unknown of 2026, Oscar Piastri’s calm demeanor could be his greatest asset. While the technical battle between engineers intensifies, the ability of a driver to provide precise feedback and adapt to shifting aerodynamic balances will be the deciding factor in the championship race. For the Australian, the time for potential is over; the era of results has truly arrived.
