Arvid Lindblad has recently completed his first pre-season Formula 1 test. After the crash at Imola during Racing Bulls’ filming day, everything ran smoothly in Barcelona, where team personnel were genuinely surprised by the young British driver’s behaviour and approach behind the wheel.
Alan Permane, speaking in a recent interview, openly admitted how positively impressed he was by Lindblad’s attitude and performance during the test.
“He really impressed me. He is very calm: nothing seems to unsettle him. It’s a bit like how I described Isack last year: he just wants to learn and absorb as much information as possible. He asks a lot of questions, asks for a lot of advice. As a team, we are helping him at every stage. But the most important thing, the pace, seems to be there. The two guys are very similar [referring to Lawson], so so far everything is good.”
Permane’s words underline how Lindblad’s maturity has stood out despite his limited experience at this level. His calmness, combined with a clear desire to learn, has already allowed him to integrate effectively into the team environment.
Tim Goss also echoed this view. The technical director of the Faenza-based team expressed an opinion very similar to that of Permane, highlighting both Arvid Lindblad’s professionalism and the quality of his feedback.
“He is really calm, very professional, the feedback is very direct. For someone so young, it is really, really impressive. His session in the car was actually just about getting familiar with this type of car,” he concluded.
While the team waits to see what kind of season lies ahead for the young debutant, attention now turns to his next appearances on track. Lindblad is expected to be back in action during the second and third test sessions in Bahrain, where he will have further opportunities to build experience and continue his adaptation to Formula 1 machinery.
The spotlight on the next generation of talent has never been brighter. Arvid Lindblad’s seamless integration into the Racing Bulls environment suggests that the Faenza squad may have found another future star. The transition from the junior categories to the pinnacle of motorsport is notoriously difficult, but if the early feedback from the engineers is any indication, Lindblad possesses the mental fortitude and raw speed required to succeed. All eyes will now be on Sakhir to see if this “impressive” form translates into a challenge for points once the racing begins in earnest.
