Oscar Piastri gives verdict on incidents with Max Verstappen and Franco Colapinto in Abu Dhabi. Oscar Piastri on crashes with Max Verstappen and Franco Colapinto in Abu Dhabi.

Oscar Piastri, McLaren MCL38, 2024

The Australian is already in history
Two stage wins, his first in F1, and the Constructors’ title with McLaren: Oscar Piastri’s 2024 Formula One season is certainly positive for a driver who, at several events, even overshadowed Lando Norris.

The Australian driver’s final race in Abu Dhabi was compromised immediately by a collision with Max Verstappen at Turn 1, for which the Dutchman was penalized with a 10-second penalty. Piastri, in turn, received the same penalty for rear-ending Franco Colapinto on the following lap.

“Both the contact with Max Verstappen and the penalty were not great things,” Oscar Piastri said to Sky Sport microphones at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – “However, with Colapinto, I made a mistake and I need to review what happened. I thought I had braked early, but evidently, I was wrong. The most important thing by far is the Constructors’ title; it’s a huge success for the whole team and I’m happy for all the team members. It’s an immense honor; it’s really fantastic to be part of this new chapter in McLaren’s history. I know I have some areas to work on, but this year has been good. It was a good step forward compared to my debut season, and I’m happy with the progress I managed to make. Now I will reset everything during the break to come back even stronger in 2025.”
