In Abu Dhabi, the certainties about Sergio Perez’s future in F1 collapse: the search for an agreement with Red Bull begins. After yet another retirement—this time not his fault—during a disastrous season, the Mexican could be saying his final goodbyes. On Saturday, rumors about a possible contract resolution between the driver and Milton Keynes circulated. At the end of the race, #11 partially confirmed these speculations.
Another zero for Sergio Perez, another race well below expectations. After making it to Q3—thanks also to Charles Leclerc‘s time being canceled—the Mexican barely made it a few corners at Yas Marina: a contact with Valtteri Bottas, later penalized, put him out of the race immediately. Another unacceptable result for Red Bull, which seems increasingly ready to welcome a new face to the team.
Always confident in his statements, this time Checo admits the need for a dialogue with the team. Just a few hours earlier, rumors about a possible contract resolution—signed at the beginning of the season—were multiplying. Meanwhile, Liam Lawson is warming up the engines: in case the Guadalajara native leaves, he will take his place at Red Bull.
Abu Dhabi, another nightmare: Sergio Perez seeks dialogue with Red Bull
At the end of the Yas Marina race, the final round of the 2024 season, Sergio Perez admits the need to open talks with Red Bull management: “I have a contract to drive next year, so it will be about finding an agreement, hopefully. Let’s see what the team wants to do.”
“I think we know how difficult this year has been, so I think it’s just about discussing what’s best for everyone, for the future. We’ll see what happens.”
