The Bahrain GP ends with Oscar Piastri in first place and McLaren celebrating; the Australian’s 50th race also marks his fourth career victory. McLaren were the favorites and proved it by winning the Bahrain GP with Oscar Piastri. Lando Norris finished third behind George Russell.
Excellent pace from the Australian, who was never challenged for position. Both at the start and after the Safety Car restart, Piastri led the rest of the field with a comfortable gap. The team also did a good job on strategy, from tyre choices to pit-stop timing.
This weekend, for the first time in McLaren’s history, the team claimed both pole position and victory at the Sakhir circuit. Additionally, for Oscar Piastri, this was his 50th Grand Prix, which he celebrated with his fourth career win.
Oscar Piastri’s comments
As mentioned, this was Oscar Piastri’s 50th race weekend in F1. He decided to celebrate this milestone with a fourth career win and couldn’t be happier.
Before today, McLaren had only led the Bahrain GP for eight laps in total. In 2025, they claimed their first pole position and first win at Sakhir. The Australian said: “Yes, a great result, an incredible weekend. It started with qualifying yesterday and to finish the job in style today was great.”
“I can’t thank the team enough for the car they’re giving us. It’s really nice to have on track, and I’m very proud of what I’ve done this weekend, here too,” he added. “Especially in Bahrain, because it’s a very important race for us considering our owners, and it’s never been a kind track to us. It’s great to have secured our first win here for the team.”
Around halfway through the GP, about lap 33, a Safety Car was deployed due to debris. The restart was stressful for all drivers, but Oscar Piastri wasn’t worried.
“I would’ve preferred not to have one. But I was still pretty confident because the pace was good, and I was confident I could restart well. I also knew Lando [Norris] was on mediums, and that was the tyre I should’ve been on too. From there, it was all fairly straightforward. Of course, you have to nail the restart and that’s always a question mark, but I’m glad I did it well,” said driver no. 81.
After this important victory for the Woking-based team, there will be a big party before heading to Saudi Arabia. Oscar Piastri isn’t getting too carried away, but he knows there will be celebrations.
The Australian stated: “We’ll definitely have a big party. I can’t get too involved because we’ve got another race next week.”
“But it was a great weekend for everyone and a great place to get it done. So I’m very sure everyone will have fun,” he concluded.
