Official: Max Verstappen signs Red Bull contract extension until 2030. Max Verstappen extends Red Bull F1 contract through 2030.

Max Verstappen has signed a new Red Bull contract running until the end of 2030, ending months of speculation about his Formula 1 future. The four-time world champion’s decision represents a major vote of confidence in the team as Laurent Mekies oversees its evolution following significant changes over the past year.

Red Bull confirmed the agreement ahead of the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, where Max Verstappen will contest his final home race before the event disappears from the Formula 1 calendar. The timing therefore gives the announcement added significance for both the Dutch driver and the home crowd.

Max Verstappen extends Red Bull contract until 2030

Max Verstappen’s future had repeatedly been questioned in recent months. The possibility of an early retirement had even been discussed because of the characteristics of the 2026 cars, which were considered far removed from his vision of Formula 1.

His future now appears much clearer. Red Bull announced that the Dutch champion’s new agreement will cover the next four seasons and run through 2030, extending a contract that had previously been due to expire at the end of 2028.

The decision to confirm the deal at Zandvoort was no coincidence. The 2026 race will be Max Verstappen’s final Dutch Grand Prix in front of his home supporters, with the event dropping off the calendar next season. The four-time champion has already paid tribute to the Dutch fans ahead of what promises to be an emotional weekend.

The last Zandvoort event will also present a demanding sporting challenge, with the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix Sprint format leaving the teams with only one free practice session before competitive running begins.

Mercedes rumours surrounded Max Verstappen’s future

The contract extension should, at least for now, bring an end to persistent rumours linking Max Verstappen with several rival teams. A potential move to Mercedes had been discussed at length over the previous two years, particularly during the summer of 2025 as Formula 1 prepared for the new technical era.

At that stage, Red Bull was considered the fourth-strongest team. Perhaps surprisingly, its deficit was not linked to the power unit, despite it being the first Formula 1 engine developed at Milton Keynes. The greater problems were on the chassis side, with the car overweight and behind its rivals aerodynamically.

Those difficulties made Max Verstappen’s future one of Formula 1’s biggest talking points. His commitment until 2030 consequently sends a powerful message of mutual trust at a delicate moment in Red Bull’s development.

Red Bull rebuilds after Christian Horner and Helmut Marko departures

The new deal follows one of the biggest internal revolutions in Red Bull’s history. Christian Horner, a central figure in building the team and turning it into a title-winning force over two decades, departed first. Helmut Marko subsequently followed him out of the organisation.

Max Verstappen and Red Bull have nevertheless enjoyed an extraordinary partnership. Together, they have won four Drivers’ Championships, two Constructors’ Championships and 71 Grands Prix, producing some of the most memorable moments of Formula 1’s modern era.

The objective is to return to those heights with Laurent Mekies in charge. Max Verstappen has repeatedly praised the leadership of the Red Bull team principal, whose task is to guide the organisation through its latest rebuilding phase.

“I’m really happy about this contract extension,” Max Verstappen said. “We have the best people and I’m excited to continue working with everyone to get back to the top. That remains the ultimate goal we have all been working towards and will continue to pursue. I want to thank Red Bull, Laurent and everyone at Red Bull for the trust they have placed in me.”

“I have always said it: the team is like a second family to me and I feel very much at home. I joined the team hoping I could win races. What we managed to achieve together has been simply fantastic, and we have shared many incredible moments while winning four titles.”

“Continuing this journey with the same team I have been with throughout my career is really special, and it is something I have always wanted to do. Working with Laurent for more than a year now has been great. I can see that he has a clear vision for the team. Everyone at Milton Keynes believes in what we are building, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter: fighting for more victories and challenging for championships as we continue to shape the future of this team.”

Laurent Mekies welcomes long-term Max Verstappen deal

The confirmation also brings considerable relief to Red Bull. Knowing that Max Verstappen will remain the central pillar of the team for the coming years provides continuity and guarantees that it can continue relying on one of Formula 1’s leading talents.

“Having Max stay with us and retaining the best driver on the grid is fantastic news for everyone at Red Bull, as well as for Formula 1 and motorsport as a whole,” Laurent Mekies said.

“Very few partnerships in sport have achieved what Max and this team have achieved. From the very beginning, Max has embodied everything that makes Red Bull special: uncompromising competitiveness, relentless determination and the courage to challenge convention. His impact on our team and Red Bull’s motorsport history has been transformational, and he has been fundamental to everything we have achieved together.”

“The decision to continue our journey together is rooted in the trust that Max and the team have built over many years, as well as Max’s confidence in our people, our culture and our vision for the future. Forged through championship success, intense battles and difficult moments, this relationship has continued to grow stronger, making it one of Formula 1’s greatest stories.”

“But we are not finished yet. There are more races to win, more milestones to reach and more history to write. Together, we will continue raising the bar with the same determination that took us to the top of the sport and with even greater belief in what we can achieve. Much will evolve as we move forward, but our ambition remains unchanged—united by one direction, one vision and one team.”
