Max Verstappen has described racing in front of his home supporters at Zandvoort as one of the highlights of his Formula 1 career as he prepares for the final Dutch Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver will also wear a special Delft Blue helmet as a tribute to the fans who have supported him throughout his years at the top of the sport.
For Max Verstappen, Zandvoort is much more than another round of the championship. The circuit has become part of his racing story, making its final Formula 1 weekend an opportunity to express his gratitude to the Dutch crowd that has accompanied him since the event returned to the calendar in 2021. The complete timetable for the Sprint weekend is available in the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix schedule.
Max Verstappen’s Zandvoort farewell closes a memorable chapter
The summer break provided a brief opportunity to recharge before Max Verstappen returned to a circuit that feels like home. His motivation for the weekend is not defined solely by championship pressure or the pursuit of results, but by the significance of competing in front of the Orange Army for one final time at Zandvoort.
“We have relaxed and recharged after the summer break and I’m excited to head straight into Zandvoort race week,” Max Verstappen said. “It will be a special one for myself and the fans as this is the final Dutch Grand Prix before it leaves the calendar. I have had so many good memories here in Zandvoort, and to have been able to race in front of my home crowd for the past few years has been a privilege and one of my many highlights.”
Those words reflect how much Zandvoort has given Max Verstappen beyond the results themselves. The Dutch supporters do not simply watch him compete; their presence and atmosphere follow him around every corner of the circuit.
Max Verstappen won the Dutch Grand Prix three consecutive times between 2021 and 2023. Another victory at the final edition would allow him to equal Jim Clark’s record of four Dutch Grand Prix wins, adding further sporting significance to an already emotional weekend.
Delft Blue helmet pays tribute to Dutch supporters
For the final Dutch Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has chosen a helmet that celebrates his country and its traditions rather than focusing only on his own achievements. The distinctive blue-and-white design takes inspiration from Delft Blue pottery, one of the Netherlands’ most recognisable forms of decorative art.
“This week I will be racing in my special helmet, with the design inspired by the famous Delft Blue pottery,” Max Verstappen explained. “It is a very traditional and beautiful pattern and something a bit more unique for the final race. The helmet is a tribute to the Dutch fans for their continued support through the years, so we are hoping to do them proud this weekend.”
The design gives Max Verstappen’s special Zandvoort helmet a meaning that extends beyond its colours. It carries a piece of Dutch culture onto the circuit and offers a visible thank-you to the supporters who transformed each of his home races into one of Formula 1’s most distinctive events.
Max Verstappen cannot promise victory at a circuit where Red Bull’s competitiveness will again be tested, but his message is centred on making the Dutch fans proud regardless of the final result. For the four-time world champion and the Orange Army, the weekend will be both a race and a farewell to a chapter that has become an important part of his career.
