Sergio Perez and a return to F1: not only Cadillac, another team potentially interested in the Mexican has surfaced. The entourage of the Guadalajara native appears to have offered the former Red Bull driver to several teams on the grid. The most realistic path, as of today, remains the American one with General Motors and Andretti, but many doors are still open. A new report reveals negotiations with Flavio Briatore.
Five months after leaving Milton Keynes, Sergio Perez’s image is gradually being rehabilitated. Considered a “driver at the end of his career” during his final year at Red Bull, he was often criticized for the stark gap with Max Verstappen. However, the start of this 2025 season suggests that the problem was not the Mexican: the struggles of Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda are proof of that.
Left without a seat, Perez’s eyes never left the Circus. The goal has always been to return to the grid, and that now seems to be taking shape with the arrival of Cadillac. The American team wants a very experienced profile, and Checo’s fits the bill perfectly. However, several doors remain open – or not fully closed – across the paddock.
Sergio Perez and Alpine: an option for 2026?
According to a report from The Race, Sergio Perez’s management was in talks with Alpine. The French team is certainly a more appealing option than General Motors, at least in the short term. Powered by Mercedes starting next season, the team led by Flavio Briatore could represent a far more competitive alternative to Cadillac.
The support of Carlos Slim Domit remains a key factor in the Mexican’s future choices. The sponsorship of the wealthy businessman from Mexico City is highly sought after in the paddock. Through his companies, Slim typically supports South American talents in motorsport. For this reason too, Milton Keynes is said to have shown interest in Franco Colapinto, hoping to extend its collaboration with the businessman.
In any case, it seems that Alpine does not currently consider Sergio Perez one of the favorites for a seat in 2026. The French team’s attention is focused on Franco Colapinto, who will replace Jack Doohan starting from Imola. Another option would be Paul Aron, currently one of the team’s reserve drivers, currently second only to the young Argentine.
