F1 Mercedes: Nico Rosberg jokes about the “magic button” party mode
During the hybrid era, Mercedes dominated six consecutive world championships, establishing themselves as the benchmark in Formula 1. The seventh title, however, went to Max Verstappen, marking the end of an era. For years, qualifying sessions sparked rumors about the so-called “party mode,” an internal engine mapping that provided extra power. Always talked about, yet never officially detected by the FIA, it has become part of F1 folklore.
Rosberg jokes about the secret engine boost
Speaking live on Sky Sport Italia, Nico Rosberg humorously responded to a question from Roberto Chinchero about the legendary party mode. “The party mode was a magic button,” Rosberg laughed. “Now you can say it, it was a hidden mapping in the engine that no one ever found and no one ever saw. It gave us thirty extra horsepower. No, I’m joking,” he added, chuckling.
The remark underlines the mystique and curiosity surrounding Mercedes’ dominance in the hybrid era. While the technical secrets of that period are often debated, Rosberg’s anecdote adds a playful glimpse into how the team approached qualifying and the strategic advantages that contributed to their unprecedented success.
