The new Formula 1 season is just around the corner. In a few weeks, all cars will take to the track for the first official test sessions, marking crucial days especially for the new entrants. For Cadillac and Audi, making their F1 debut in 2026, it will be the first opportunity to measure themselves directly against the established teams. Nico Hulkenberg has shared his impressions of the work being carried out within the German squad as they prepare for their first season.
Audi 2026 and the first kilometers on track
For the four-ring team, the 2026 season has already begun. On Friday, January 9, both drivers completed 200 kilometers in Barcelona during the team’s first Filming Day. The event held strong symbolic value for Audi, marking the moment when their very first Formula 1 car hit the track.
The project represents one of the most ambitious in the F1 paddock. With the new technical regulations set to revolutionize everything—from aerodynamics to power units—the German brand has the chance to debut in a more balanced situation, as all teams are essentially starting from a blank sheet.
Hulkenberg explains the work at Audi
In an interview with AMUS, Nico Hulkenberg described the extensive work taking place at Audi’s Hinwil factory. “The progress is very good, you can feel that things are moving in the right direction. Now the plan is clear, and everyone in the team knows exactly which path we are following. Becoming a structured and competitive team doesn’t happen overnight: these are aspects that fans often cannot see during a normal race weekend.”
“There is a lot of organisation and a well-defined direction, and here we approach things with great seriousness. They know how to build winning projects in motorsport. I see the work being done inside the factory every day: highly professional engineers and managers are coming on board. Will we win? You cannot rush it; only patience will bring results.”
Nico Hulkenberg’s confidence provides a promising outlook for Audi’s entry into the pinnacle of motorsport. While the transition from a project on paper to a podium contender is famously difficult in F1, the synergy between the Hinwil facility and Audi’s power unit development in Neuburg seems to be gaining momentum. For the fans, the 2026 season represents a fresh start, and with a driver as experienced as Hulkenberg leading the charge, Audi is positioning itself to be more than just a participant, but a serious long-term threat to the established order.
