Formula 1 is often seen as a world dominated by billion-dollar deals, elite circles, and glamorous excess. Yet, behind the luxury and competition, there are individuals and teams who use their global visibility for something more meaningful—by supporting and promoting powerful social initiatives that go far beyond the racetrack.
Among the most notable recent examples are Sir Jackie Stewart and his tireless efforts in funding research against dementia through his charity, as well as the long-standing social activism of drivers such as Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. But it is not only individual figures making an impact. In recent years, Formula 1 teams themselves have increasingly embraced their social responsibility, launching meaningful projects and supporting charitable causes around the world.
Yesterday, during the British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team turned its motorhome into a truly special place. They opened their doors to a group of very special guests: young patients from the Great Ormond Street Hospital and from Helen & Douglas House, a pediatric hospice care center. The latter is Mercedes’ official charity partner for its social initiatives. What might seem like a simple gesture—offering a welcoming refuge to children facing serious illness—was in reality a deeply emotional moment. It was an experience that those children will likely never forget, and it clearly left an impression on Mercedes drivers George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who were both present at the circuit.
The initiative was documented through a series of heartwarming photos shared on the official social media channels of the Mercedes F1 Team. It is part of a broader collaboration launched this year with Helen & Douglas House, selected as Mercedes’ official Charity Partner for the 2025–2026 period. The main goal of the campaign—already well on its way to being achieved—is to raise £100,000 by December 2026. These funds will help support the hospice’s work in caring for children with life-limiting illnesses and offering vital support to their families in the Oxfordshire area.
Mercedes’ commitment to this cause was perfectly captured by Imogen Tait, a representative of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team’s Charity Committee, who explained the importance of community engagement:
“We are proud to have worked with so many extraordinary organizations over the years, and we are delighted to now include Helen & Douglas House among them. Even though we compete all over the world, our local community remains incredibly important to us. That’s why we are united in our efforts to support the children’s hospice located so close to our factory.”
From promoting diversity and inclusiveness through the “Accelerate 25” initiative—strongly backed by Lewis Hamilton—to their ongoing support of both local and international charitable organizations, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team continues to be a leading force in social responsibility within the Formula 1 paddock. Under the leadership of Team Principal Toto Wolff, Mercedes demonstrates that success on the track can go hand-in-hand with compassion and purpose off the track.
Sometimes, Formula 1 still finds a way to move us—not through speed or spectacle, but through genuine human connection and acts of kindness that remind us of the sport’s broader impact.
