After the United States Grand Prix, Formula 1 now heads to Mexico, a venue known in recent years for unpredictable races filled with surprises. For Mercedes, this weekend is a golden opportunity: battling with Ferrari and Red Bull for second place in the Constructors’ Championship, George Russell and Kimi Antonelli aim to deliver a strong team performance to maximize their results. Team principal Toto Wolff believes it will be a close fight with direct rivals and that Mercedes can play its cards strategically throughout the weekend.
Wolff’s expectations for Mexico
Toto Wolff said that with five races remaining, only 10 points separate second from fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. “We had a disappointing result in Austin, and our rivals gained ground. In Mexico, however, we have the chance to immediately redeem ourselves. It will be a battle until the checkered flag in Abu Dhabi, and that is something that excites us,” he explained.
Wolff added that Mexico City presents unique challenges for the teams. “The high altitude tests both brakes and the power unit, while the thin air requires a setup with increased aerodynamic load. Our reserve driver, Fred Vesti, will drive in FP1, completing his second rookie session of the year. He will contribute to our program, as he always does when in the car. The field is highly competitive, but we hope to achieve a better result than we did just a few days ago in Texas,” he concluded.
