F1 | Mercedes prepares for Austin and the rest of the season: here’s the team’s full plan
As the 2025 Formula 1 season nears its conclusion, Mercedes can be reasonably satisfied, thanks to a car that shows promise for 2026. Andrew Shovlin, the British team’s technical director, shared all the updates ahead of Austin and the final races of the year.
Andrew Shovlin reveals Mercedes’ plans: “The car can still win races”
In an interview with RacingNews365, Shovlin outlined Mercedes’ strategy for Austin and the remaining events of the season. He provided a brief analysis of the team’s strengths and weaknesses, explaining that work is still ongoing but that the goal remains to continue winning races.
“Just to manage expectations a bit: if you look at the circuits where we’ve been strong, particularly the races we’ve won this year – Montreal, Singapore – these are relatively slow tracks,” the technical director said.
“There’s no doubt that this car performs well in low-speed corners, where it seems to have excellent grip. The drivers feel very confident under heavy braking.
“What we haven’t seen much on those tracks is high-speed cornering. Perhaps that’s where we’ve struggled a little.
“We’re still working on this, trying to find every possible margin in the setup, but it’s definitely an area where we’re making progress. If you look at a track like Austin, it has a very, very fast first sector, so we need to make sure we’re competitive there as well.”
“It’s been encouraging to see that the car can still win races. We’ve seen a brilliant performance from George, and the entire team was really energized by this, giving us plenty of motivation for the final six races.”
