Kimi Antonelli shared some heartfelt words for Toto Wolff. As a guest at the Sports Festival in Trento, the Italian talent spoke about the Mercedes team principal and also mentioned Lewis Hamilton, the driver he will replace starting with the 2025 Formula 1 season, when the seven-time F1 world champion will move to Scuderia Ferrari.
During the Italian Grand Prix weekend at the Monza circuit, the Silver Arrows confirmed what had long been rumored: the young Prema driver would debut in Formula 1 next year, replacing the seven-time world champion.
“I have a great relationship with Toto. I consider him a second father because, in the end, I’ve been with him since 2018. It’s been six years now,” Kimi Antonelli explained when asked about Toto Wolff – “He has always supported me and even scolded me. Even recently!” he confessed, revealing a behind-the-scenes moment. “Let’s say I was a bit mischievous… I’m really happy to be with him next year. It’s going to be a very challenging year, and there will be a lot to learn, so it will be very important to have his support to keep pushing forward.” – he added.
Kimi Antonelli ran the first free practice session at Monza, replacing Lewis Hamilton in a first (and brief) session. “I have a good relationship with him. I don’t talk to him much, only during race weekends, but he’s a great person, very helpful,” the Italian said about the seven-time world champion.
The 18-year-old explained that he has learned a lot from Hamilton and discovered they are similar in several ways. “His driving style, which I have to say is similar to mine. He’s also a driver who likes to have a car with a very pointed front end. He doesn’t like an understeering car, and I don’t like it either.” – the Italian explained – “When I went to Singapore to watch the race, I learned how he manages it. The information he gives the team about the car and tire conditions. I have to say that weekend I learned a lot from him. I can’t wait to get back on track to continue observing and learning even more so that I’ll be ready next year.” – Kimi Antonelli concluded.
