Canadian redemption
After a disastrous run of three European races with zero points scored, Andrea Kimi Antonelli made a strong comeback in Canada, claiming his first career podium in F1 and confirming a peculiar trend that sees him particularly competitive on circuits he has never raced on before.
In Montreal, Antonelli showed significant signs of maturity: he got his ‘revenge’ for Miami by beating Piastri off the line, maintained a race pace not too far off that of George Russell, and withstood – even mentally – the pressure from both McLarens in the closing stages of the race. It’s no coincidence that even Max Verstappen praised him.
Now the fun begins
The talented driver from Bologna is starting to enjoy the taste of success, and during the press conference, he did not hide the fact that he has already raised the bar for the season. After scoring his first points and standing on the podium, there’s only one step left: “I think now the goal is to keep the same momentum and try to get more podiums and, if possible, my first win,” commented the Mercedes driver candidly. “You never know what might happen in the future.”
“This first podium was much better than I expected,” the Italian added. “Hearing the crowd as I stepped onto the podium gave me goosebumps. It’s definitely a moment I’ll remember for a long time. It gives you a boost: results like this and the feeling that comes with them can’t be bought. It’s an incredible feeling, and you want more.”
