Mercedes is on course for a record-breaking 2026 Formula 1 season both on and off the track, with annual revenue projected to exceed $1 billion for the first time. The financial milestone would follow Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s maiden world championship triumph at the Mexico City Grand Prix, while the team also approaches another Constructors’ Championship title after a season featuring 12 victories from its two drivers.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli secured the 2026 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship with a third-place finish in Mexico City, completing an extraordinary campaign for the young Italian. Alongside George Russell, the newly crowned world champion has helped Mercedes establish itself as the leading team on the grid, although the season has not been characterised by complete dominance. Together, the two drivers have claimed 12 victories from the opening 19 races, leaving Mercedes waiting only for mathematical confirmation of the Constructors’ Championship.
However, the success of the German manufacturer’s Formula 1 operation extends well beyond race results. Mercedes is also approaching a financial milestone achieved by only a handful of the world’s most commercially successful sporting organisations.
Mercedes F1 revenue projected to exceed $1 billion in 2026
According to financial projections, Mercedes’ annual revenue is expected to surpass £750 million, equivalent to approximately $1 billion at current exchange rates. The figure would represent an exceptional achievement for a Formula 1 team and underline the commercial strength of the operation based in Brackley. A Mercedes spokesperson declined to comment on the reported projections.
Only a small number of sporting organisations worldwide have reached this level of annual revenue. In North America, the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Dodgers are among those to have crossed the threshold, while European football giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have also achieved it. Manchester United is expected to surpass the same figure during the 2026–27 Premier League season.
On that basis, Mercedes would become the fifth sporting organisation in the world to enter this exclusive financial category, demonstrating how Formula 1’s commercial potential has developed alongside its global sporting appeal.
Mercedes sponsorship revenue and commercial growth
Mercedes entered 2026 following an already strong financial performance in the previous year. In 2025, the team’s revenue reached £633 million, approximately $849 million, remaining broadly stable compared with 2024. Growth in sponsorship income was offset by lower prize-money payments resulting from Mercedes finishing fourth in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.
Commercial and licensing revenue amounted to £415 million, equivalent to approximately $556 million. In its financial report, Mercedes also highlighted an estimated $5.66 billion in equivalent television advertising value generated for its 24 global partner brands. These included major new additions such as Adidas, Meta AI and Nasdaq.
Commercial expansion has continued throughout 2026, with Mercedes welcoming further partners including Microsoft, Nu, Vercel, RH and Zuma. More recently, the team signed a multi-year agreement with payment technology company Stripe, marking the company’s first sports sponsorship partnership.
Mercedes now has approximately 25 sponsors, led by title partner Petronas. This growing portfolio has helped strengthen the team’s financial position at a time when its on-track performance has also returned it to the forefront of the Formula 1 championship.
Importantly, Mercedes’ financial results for 2026 will not yet include prize money associated with a potential Constructors’ Championship triumph this season. Formula 1 distributes those payments with a one-year delay, meaning the team’s current accounts will instead reflect its second-place finish behind McLaren in the 2025 championship.
Mercedes targets record F1 profits above £200 million
The team’s financial progress is also reflected in its operating profits. In 2025, Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix recorded an operating profit of £167 million, approximately $223 million, surpassing its previous record of £156 million established in 2024.
For 2026, another record is anticipated, with operating profit projected to exceed £200 million, equivalent to approximately $268 million. If achieved, the result would further strengthen Mercedes’ position among the most financially successful organisations in international sport.
The combination of expanding commercial revenue, substantial sponsorship agreements and competitive success has therefore put Mercedes in a position to establish new financial benchmarks in Formula 1.
CrowdStrike founder George Kurtz joins Mercedes ownership structure
Mercedes has also experienced changes within its ownership structure. George Kurtz, the founder and chief executive of cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, has become a co-owner through the acquisition of a minority stake in Motorsports Invest, the holding company associated with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff.
Through the transaction, Kurtz acquired an indirect 5% stake in the Formula 1 team. Mercedes was valued at approximately $6 billion at the time of the investment, highlighting the substantial financial value attached to one of the sport’s leading organisations.
CrowdStrike is also among Mercedes’ existing commercial sponsors, reinforcing the relationship between the technology company and the Formula 1 operation.
With Andrea Kimi Antonelli already crowned world champion, George Russell contributing to the team’s 12 victories and the Constructors’ Championship moving closer, Mercedes’ 2026 campaign has been defined by success across several areas. Its projected billion-dollar revenue and anticipated record operating profits could make this season equally significant in the team’s financial history.
