Mercedes completed more than 600 kilometres of running with Frederik Vesti on the second day of Pirelli testing at Magny-Cours, as the tyre manufacturer focused on identifying the crossover point between wet-weather and dry compounds.
After working with intermediate tyres on the opening day, Mercedes’ third driver switched to a range of dry-weather solutions on the second day. The programme was designed to help Pirelli compare compounds of different hardness and determine when the transition from wet tyres to slicks becomes most effective.
Frederik Vesti completes 138 laps for Mercedes at Magny-Cours
The second day of Pirelli’s Magny-Cours test again featured Frederik Vesti at the wheel. The Mercedes reserve driver completed 138 laps, covering a total of 609 kilometres during the session.
Vesti tested several dry-weather tyre solutions with different compound hardness levels. Among the various evaluations carried out, the programme allowed Pirelli to work on identifying the crossover point with the wet-weather tyres that had been tested the previous day.
Fog causes brief delay before Mercedes resumes programme
The day began with a short delay caused by patches of fog that reduced visibility around the circuit. Once conditions improved, however, the test programme proceeded normally.
Temperatures were higher than on the opening day. The track temperature reached a maximum of 31°C, while the air temperature peaked at 24°C.
Frederik Vesti’s best lap time of the day was a 1:15.766.
Magny-Cours forms part of extensive Pirelli development schedule
The two-day Magny-Cours test formed part of Pirelli’s extensive tyre development programme during the season.
Across the year, the manufacturer has organised a total of 20 days of track testing at nine different circuits. Some sessions have taken place immediately after Grand Prix weekends, while others, including dedicated tests, have been held as standalone events.
The Magny-Cours programme therefore provided Pirelli with another substantial data set, with Mercedes contributing more than 600 kilometres of running on the second day alone as development work continued across both wet and dry tyre specifications.
