Piastri and Norris, two complementary talents? Andrea Stella’s view
The McLaren team principal, Andrea Stella, has taken stock of the performances of his two drivers this season, highlighting their strengths and the areas where each continues to grow. In Qatar, the Italian engineer pointed out how the characteristics of the circuit played perfectly into Oscar Piastri’s hands, while Lando Norris once again confirmed his skill in low-grip conditions.
Piastri regains confidence with high grip
The return to a high-grip track allowed Oscar Piastri to fully express his natural speed. After several complicated weekends on more slippery circuits, the young Australian showed solidity, confidence and a very fluid driving style. Andrea Stella explained the difference in performance from his driver with a clear assessment:
“Here in Qatar we return to the category of high-grip circuits, and in this category I think Oscar is in his most natural way of driving the car and can really maximise the available potential.”
Norris, a master on slippery surfaces
While Oscar Piastri shines when grip is plentiful, Lando Norris has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to handle the opposite conditions. The most recent races, held on lower-grip circuits such as Austin and Mexico, highlighted the Briton’s talent for exploiting a more demanding technique, based on controlling rear-end movement under braking and rotation. Stella drew attention to this difference in approach between the two teammates:
“It is a technique that Oscar is developing, but in reality it is a category in which Lando excels.”
