Global tension: sparks fly between Norris and Russell after qualifying in Losail
That the Formula 1 World Championship is entering its final stretch – and that pressure on the main contenders is extremely high – became clear from the tense atmosphere that followed qualifying in Losail. Lando Norris, having missed out on pole position, which was instead taken by his teammate Oscar Piastri, arrived at the interview ring in a mood far from calm.
It was there that the situation escalated between the British championship leader and fellow Briton George Russell. During an interview, the Mercedes driver stopped mid-answer, turned toward Norris standing beside him, and provocatively asked: “Did you say it was my fault you didn’t set the fastest time?”
Lando Norris, visibly irritated, immediately fired back with a sharp reply: “Who told you that? That’s bull****. You probably believe them more than me, very disappointing.” George Russell then added: “Sounds like something you would say.”
The exchange continued over the topic of slipstreams and lap times, with Russell insisting that he had tried in every way possible to help Lando Norris in his championship fight. The moment came to an end when the Mercedes driver pointed to the journalist who had planted the initial doubt. Lando Norris, catching her eye, muttered under his breath: “She’s not getting an interview today,” drawing a smile from George Russell, who closed the “case” with a friendly pat on his rival’s shoulder.
Just another sign of how intense the fight for the 2025 Formula 1 crown has become.
