Disappointing qualifying continues for Oscar Piastri, who made a mistake on his final attempt to finish fifth. Here’s what he had to say.
Oscar Piastri made another error during the last attempt of Las Vegas GP qualifying. On his final lap, the Australian ran wide and could not complete a competitive final lap. Up to that point, he had looked in strong form, securing second place behind his teammate. Yet once again, when it mattered most, he made a mistake.
Tomorrow, he will face another race where he must attack and defend to minimize the damage. If Lando Norris wins again, the championship would be out of reach. However, there is room for a comeback: on the long straights of the Las Vegas street circuit, overtaking is possible, and Oscar Piastri will need to respond to try to recover from this challenging moment and keep the championship fight alive.
His words after qualifying
In the usual media interviews after qualifying, Oscar Piastri appeared calm. Asked about his mistake on the final attempt, he replied: “On my last attempt, there was also a yellow flag (caused by Leclerc). There was no mistake on my part. It’s a pity, qualifying was going really well.”
For Oscar Piastri, it wasn’t an error that compromised his Las Vegas qualifying. “Unfortunately, if you see a yellow flag, you have to slow down, that’s how it works. It’s a shame, we could have definitely done more.”
So, Oscar Piastri is not worried about the situation created on his final Q3 lap in Las Vegas. He attributes it all to bad luck. Tomorrow will reveal whether he can recover and keep alive a championship that is slowly slipping out of his hands.
