Lando Norris claimed an incredible pole position for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, but highlighted the uncertainties facing tomorrow’s race. In Las Vegas, the British driver impressed everyone, mastering the competition under extremely difficult conditions. Qualifying was chaotic due to unpredictable weather and a track surface that never truly inspired confidence, turning the city circuit into something akin to a skating rink. Norris, however, aided by McLaren’s higher downforce setup, overcame every difficulty to deliver a stunning lap when it mattered most.
1:47.934 was the time set by Lando Norris, placing him ahead of Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz, with teammate Oscar Piastri in fifth. The challenge was evident from Q1 onwards. The McLaren driver described moments of intense pressure: “It was very stressful. The first two sectors were the best, but as soon as you touched the curb, you lost the car and risked hitting the wall.” A clear indication of the track’s treacherous condition.
“We’ve never driven in the rain here, and every corner was a risk. A tiny mistake could send you into the barriers.” Yet, amid the difficulty, Lando Norris found his best rhythm.
On the decisive lap, he combined precision with bravery, pushing the McLaren beyond the limits the track seemed to allow. This pole position represents not only the first spot on the grid but also demonstrates Norris in peak form, bringing him closer than ever to potentially winning his first world championship in his career.
Tomorrow’s race presents a new scenario, likely more straightforward with no rain forecast. What will make life challenging for Norris is Verstappen, starting alongside him and ready to fight to keep the championship alive. “Tomorrow I’ll have to improvise,” Lando said. “No one has done a race simulation, and even though we are confident in dry conditions, managing the tires will be interesting and difficult. Let’s hope for the best.”
