Norris and Piastri disqualified. Here’s what is happening – F1
What is happening in Las Vegas is nothing short of incredible. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have both been disqualified for excessive plank wear after a dramatic and confusing end to the race. The situation took a sudden turn, especially for Lando Norris, who had already struggled in the closing laps and was believed to be at risk of disqualification for fuel-related issues. The British driver was told to significantly lift off during the final laps due to a probable excessive fuel consumption, with the team urging him to stay within the limits required to pass post-race checks. But an even bigger twist has arrived: both he and Oscar Piastri have been disqualified, not for fuel, but for excessive plank wear.
However, this might not have been the end of it. According to reports from DAZN Spain, the FIA wanted full clarity on the situation. Footage aired by the Spanish broadcaster showed an FIA steward entering garage number 4 to carry out checks. The garage was immediately shielded to prevent anyone from seeing what was happening inside. But according to the latest updates from the paddock, and from the FIA’s official statement, Oscar Piastri was also at risk of disqualification for the same issue: excessive plank wear.
A decision that could decide the championship
The FIA has now issued an official statement announcing the disqualification of both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri from the race for excessive skid plank wear. Initially, the suspicion was that Lando Norris’s fuel level was below the legal threshold, but the situation rapidly escalated into something far more dramatic. Both McLaren drivers have now suffered a sensational disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix — a moment that could change the entire world championship picture. With only two races left in the season, the standings are now extremely tight. Norris is left with only a 24-point margin over Verstappen and Piastri.
Speaking in the press conference, Lando Norris himself admitted that there were concerns about fuel: “I’m not sure how close we were to the limit. I don’t know if the sensor was showing things it shouldn’t have been showing. Maybe we used more fuel than expected, but I don’t know the extent of it. To be honest, I need to go to the team and understand more.”
Meanwhile, the latest news from the paddock suggests that Nikolas Tombazis and Andrea Stella have been discussing the issue inside garage number 4. The situation appears to be serious, and further updates are expected as soon as possible.
We’ll keep you updated as this story develops. For now, Las Vegas has gone from neon glamour to pure chaos – and the championship is anyone’s game.
