Stella: “Qatar suits us, both drivers deserve the chance to fight for the title”
McLaren heads to Lusail aiming to erase Las Vegas disappointment
Despite the double disqualification for excessive wear on the floor at Las Vegas, Lando Norris and McLaren still have the opportunity to settle the championship in this weekend’s Qatar GP at Lusail. The British driver needs to cross the finish line on Sunday with more than a 25-point lead over Max Verstappen and teammate Oscar Piastri, both sitting 24 points behind.
“It’s fantastic to return to Qatar for the final Sprint weekend of the year,” Lando Norris said. “I can’t wait to drive the MCL39 around the Lusail circuit.”
Oscar Piastri is equally optimistic, having won his first F1 Sprint race at Lusail. “This is one of my favorite circuits on the calendar, and I have amazing memories here, especially from my first F1 victory in the 2023 Sprint,” the Australian driver said. “It’s a fast and flowing track with many medium- and high-speed sections, and it’s excellent for overtaking.”
Stella emphasizes no team orders
Team principal Andrea Stella reaffirmed that there will be no team orders this weekend. “What happened in Las Vegas will not change our approach for this weekend. The mindset that brought us two Constructors’ Championships and two drivers still in contention for the title remains the same: push to the limit and maximize our potential. Tough moments are part of our sport, but they also teach you and make you stronger. We’ve analyzed everything and we’re ready to turn the page. The team is united and fully focused on providing Lando and Oscar with the best car for Qatar, a circuit whose technical characteristics suit our package. With two races to go, both deserve the chance to fight for the title.” – the former Ferrari race engineer concluded.
