McLaren and Lego launch Technic MCL39 model celebrating 2025 F1 championship. Lego Technic presents the McLaren MCL39 F1 car in 1,675 pieces.

McLaren MCL40, 2026 F1

The 2025 World Championship-winning car has been recreated in 1,675 pieces at a 1:8 scale and will be available from March 1st at a price of €229.99, but pre-orders are already open.

Lego today presented the new set in its Technic line dedicated to the McLaren MCL39, winner of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship.

This is an exciting 1:8 scale model designed for adults and motorsport enthusiasts, inspired by the car that secured both the Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships.

The 1,675-piece Lego Technic set invites fans to build a true icon of modern motorsport. Each stage of the construction reflects the real engineering that led the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team to the top of the podium, including fully functional steering, suspension, gearbox, and differential.

The detailed V6 engine is visible when the engine cover is removed, and this meticulous replica provides an engaging and deeply rewarding experience from the first brick to the last click.

A new standout feature of the Lego Technic build is the working DRS system on the rear wing. This activates when the engine cover is removed and the car is shifted into top gear, demonstrating an authentic and dynamic mechanism.

To celebrate the launch, Lego Group carried out a secret and meticulous mission: overnight, Lego Technic MCL39 F1 models were secretly placed throughout the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC), surprising team members as they arrived at work. This exclusive worldwide preview captured the genuine reactions of the team members as they explored the new Technic model and its innovative features, delivering a playful moment of joy at the heart of McLaren Racing.

Every aspect of the set, from its iconic livery to the intricate mechanical functions, reflects the precision and engineering excellence of the world championship-winning team, allowing fans to build and proudly display a piece of racing history.

“Bringing this podium-winning car to life in brick form meant translating the real winning engineering into a construction that fans could actually interact with. Alongside the steering, suspension, and detailed livery, it’s a hands-on way to explore how performance comes to life in the MCL39,” said Andreas Jensen, Model Designer at Lego Technic.

Piers Thynne, Chief Operating Officer of McLaren F1, added: “We are thrilled to convey to fans the excitement of McLaren’s championship-winning season through this detailed Lego Technic model. This collaboration celebrates the innovation and engineering excellence that define both of our brands, inviting fans of all ages to experience the thrill of Formula 1 in a truly hands-on way.”

The Lego Technic MCL39 F1 set (number 42228) will be available in stores from March 1st, but pre-orders can be placed starting today on the official website at a launch price of €229.99.

The launch of the LEGO Technic McLaren MCL39 offers fans a unique opportunity to commemorate one of the most dominant seasons in the team’s modern history. By integrating advanced mechanical features like a working DRS and a detailed V6 engine, LEGO has created more than just a toy; they have produced a technical tribute to the 2025 World Champions. As McLaren transitions into the 2026 regulatory era, this 1:8 scale replica serves as a permanent reminder of the engineering “sweet spot” found by the MCL39. Whether you are a dedicated collector or an engineering enthusiast, the 1,675-piece journey from the first brick to the final click is the ultimate way to relive the excitement of McLaren’s return to glory.
