McLaren to the Abu Dhabi fund
Abu Dhabi is not only the location where McLaren reclaimed the top of the world after a 26-year hiatus. From now on, it will also be, in some respects, the new home for Woking. The Abu Dhabi state fund, CYVN Holdings, has reached an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of McLaren’s automotive division while also purchasing a non-controlling minority stake in the F1 team, which recently won the Constructors’ World Championship. The deal, subject to customary regulatory approvals in the coming weeks, was signed a few days ago.
McLaren between Bahrain and Abu Dhabi
This ownership change comes less than a year after Bahrain’s sovereign fund, Mumtalakat Holding Company, acquired 100% of McLaren’s shares, spearheading the recapitalization to revitalize the group following a particularly challenging financial period. The agreement was concluded between Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain.
Jassem Mohammed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, Chairman of CYVN, stated that the acquisition marks a pivotal moment in CYVN’s vision to establish a globally connected leading mobility platform. He emphasized the growing role of Abu Dhabi as a global hub for advanced mobility innovation. By combining McLaren’s iconic heritage and expertise with CYVN’s advanced engineering and technological capabilities, the partnership aims to redefine high-performance mobility and set a new benchmark in the field.
