From 2015 to today
Max Verstappen has been competing in Formula 1 since 2015. Over these years, he has shown his character and evolution, both as a driver and as a person.
The Dutchman is determined and fiercely competitive, one of the drivers who spends the most time training on the simulator and even playing online, which he does also for fun. This year, in addition to his Formula 1 commitments, he raced in the GT3 category at the Nordschleife, winning on his debut.
In short, racing is his life, his work, and his greatest passion. It’s no surprise that he has already claimed four world titles, and this year came close to securing a fifth.
Dedication that wakes him at night
On the podcast Talking Bull, Max Verstappen admitted: “Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with ideas, and I need to put them into practice immediately; I can’t wait. I get up and turn on the simulator. At 2 a.m.? Yes, of course I’ve done it.”
His dedication is so intense that it wakes him in the middle of the night. But he doesn’t just note the idea and act on it the next morning — he has to do it right away.
This relentless commitment is part of what makes him a true champion: constantly focusing on improvement, even if it means sacrificing precious hours of sleep. There’s no doubt that some of these late-night inspirations have helped him win races.
As the 2026 regulations approach, this work ethic will be vital. While other drivers might rely solely on their team’s engineers, Verstappen’s hands-on approach and his desire to understand every mechanical nuance of his car give him a psychological advantage. For Max, the sim isn’t just a game—it’s the laboratory where he perfects the craft that has made him one of the greatest to ever sit in a cockpit.
