Max Verstappen was the only one absent last night at the premiere of Apple’s “F1” film. Was it a lack of interest or love for his family that kept him away? Here’s his answer.
At the first screening of Apple’s F1 film in Monaco, dedicated to the drivers, Max Verstappen was the only one missing. Fans began to wonder whether this absence was another act of “rebellion” by the Dutchman against the FIA or something else. The world champion spent the whole evening playing on iRacing.
The family excuse
Max Verstappen clarified the reasons why he didn’t attend the premiere of the Apple-produced Formula 1 film, which took place on the Wednesday before the Monaco GP. The Dutchman, recently a father, chose to dedicate the time to his family, explaining it was simply private time: “I informed FOM that I wouldn’t attend, so they were fully aware,” said the three-time world champion to the media, including our reporters.
Max Verstappen emphasized how life as an F1 driver often keeps him away from home and that, with his growing family, he prefers to use every free moment to be with his loved ones: “I wanted to spend more time privately, because in the end it’s personal time. It wasn’t a mandatory event, it was just my time. And I prefer to spend it at home, especially since in F1 you’re away so much. I think it’s quite normal to want to stay home for occasions like that. Now that the family is growing, it’s a priority.”
Although, to be accurate, Max spent the evening live on Twitch playing iRacing under the pseudonym “Franz Hermann 69.”
Despite not attending, the Red Bull driver didn’t rule out interest in the film, which is set to be released in June on Apple TV+: “I think it’ll come out in June, so I’ll download it on Apple. Sure, I understand there was a chance to see it early, but I’m fine watching it in three or four weeks. I’ve read positive things about the movie, so I’m sure it’ll be exciting.”
