A champion’s celebration
Winning a Formula 1 world title is undoubtedly a special experience, something rare and incredible regardless of the location. But achieving it in Las Vegas, the city synonymous with entertainment, certainly adds an extra ‘plus’ in terms of post-race celebrations. This is what Max Verstappen experienced this year, clinching his fourth career world title in the infamous ‘Sin City.’
In the past, the Orange champion had not been too kind to the Nevada track, criticizing the excessive showmanship surrounding the event and comparing it to a national football championship, while likening the Monaco GP to the Champions League. However, winning the championship on the Strip has its perks, especially for someone who enjoys a grand party like Verstappen.
In an interview on the TV program *Hangar 7*, broadcast by Austria’s Servus TV, the Red Bull #1 recounted his ‘alcoholic’ celebrations in Las Vegas:
“My post-race interviews after winning the title? I think they were pretty funny,” Max Verstappen joked. “During the first one, I was still relatively composed, but by the last one… at that point, I’d had five or six beers and two gin and tonics. And after such a long race without eating, it’s obvious you feel it.”
The relationship with Seb
Max Verstappen’s four consecutive titles, all won with Red Bull, mirror those claimed by Sebastian Vettel between 2010 and 2013. Early in Verstappen’s career, when the German champion was driving for Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen had their fair share of heated on-track clashes. Now, however, the two have become good friends. Verstappen confirmed what Vettel had mentioned in recent interviews—that the two often exchange messages.
“We’ve been in touch throughout the year,” said the Hasselt-born champion. “We text each other after almost every race. Sebastian is very kind; I like him a lot.”
