The Thursday press conference at the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix briefly turned into a small show, thanks once again to Max Verstappen, who amused everyone by declaring that he would like to race at the North Pole. When asked about possible “crazy places” where Formula 1 could compete in the future, the reigning world champion did not miss the chance to steal the spotlight with one of his short, sharp and irreverent replies. The journalist’s question was straightforward:
“A few years ago, if someone had told us that we would be racing in this location, driving down the Strip, doing something so spectacular, we would have thought they were crazy. If it were up to you, what would be the next location or crazy place you could imagine for a Formula 1 race?”
Russell dreams of London, Alonso dreams of home
The first to respond was George Russell, who offered an idea that was both ambitious and realistically feasible:
“London. Nobody imagined a Grand Prix here in Las Vegas, so why not try it in the heart of my city?”
It was a constructive answer, one that clearly nodded toward the United Kingdom and an iconic, if logistically challenging, capital. After Russell, it was Fernando Alonso’s turn, who replied with a smile while his colleague joked:
“My karting track. Maybe we can make it a little bigger…”
Verstappen jokes: “At the North Pole!”
And then came Max. The driver who can turn any press conference into a potential meme. When asked the same question, he answered without hesitation:
“The North Pole!”
The entire press room burst into laughter. His joke was not random. Max Verstappen continues to alternate moments of absolute professionalism with flashes of sarcasm that make him a unique character in Formula 1: direct, uninterested in polishing his public image, and always more inclined to “say what he thinks” rather than give a predictable answer.
While George Russell imagines Formula 1 racing through world capitals, and Fernando Alonso dreams of hosting a Grand Prix “at home,” Max Verstappen chose to respond with humor, reminding everyone that a bit of fun is sometimes necessary. The North Pole will never host a Grand Prix, but thanks to Verstappen, for at least one moment, many people pictured it anyway.
