Brazilian GP Recap
On a legendary Sunday, one that will be talked about for decades, Max Verstappen clinched a resounding victory in a São Paulo Grand Prix that had everything needed to go down in history as one of the most thrilling and chaotic races ever. Starting from 17th, the three-time world champion climbed to first place, finishing over 18 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Esteban Ocon in an impressive Alpine.
The Frenchman was followed on the podium by his teammate and fellow countryman Pierre Gasly, completing a historic day for the Enstone-based team. In a single race, the Renault-owned team jumped from ninth to sixth in the Constructors’ standings. George Russell came in fourth, hindered by an imperfect team strategy, while Charles Leclerc was the top-finishing Ferrari driver in fifth. His teammate Carlos Sainz ended his race against the barriers. Lando Norris, defeated and indisputably bested, finished sixth after starting from pole position. The Drivers’ title now seems like an unreachable dream.
The Top-3 Finishers
Max Verstappen (1st, Red Bull): “Today was an emotional rollercoaster. I started 17th and knew it would be tough. But we stayed out of trouble, made the right choices, stayed calm, and then we were flying. All those things together made this result possible. Winning here, starting so far back, is incredible. With the new asphalt, you can only take one line if you want to overtake. I knew I had to attack there. I tried to find the right balance, trusted the brakes, and Turn 1 here is always a great spot to pass. I hope the fans enjoyed it.”
Esteban Ocon (2nd, Alpine): “A podium? I wouldn’t have believed it. Driving here is amazing. Having the performance leveled by the rain was important for us. In the wet, the cars are almost all equal, and we showed that today. Being on the podium is fantastic, and the support I get here in Brazil is incredible. I want to thank all the fans. Special setup? No. The car was extremely difficult in the dry, but once it started raining, I felt much more comfortable. I really wanted some laps in the wet; it’s always special here when it rains.”
Pierre Gasly (3rd, Alpine): “An incredible result for the whole team; it’s been a tough season. We struggled to score points, but in these conditions, anything was possible. No one believed it could happen until the end: having two cars on the podium was something I think no one could have imagined. Yesterday, the pace wasn’t bad on the dry track either. This morning’s qualifying was terrible; I started 13th but managed to gain 10 positions. I’m proud of the team. We’ve had to overcome many challenges in a very tough season. We never gave up, and now here we are with two cars on the podium. It’s amazing.”
