At the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season, we witnessed a very heated confrontation between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. The Dutchman, who had already secured the world championship two races ahead of the end of the Las Vegas GP, always had a decent margin of advantage over his rival. However, the British driver, in the final third of the season, with the help of a highly competitive car, had begun to put some pressure on the Dutchman.
This pressure later led to a few incidents that seemed to jeopardize the respect they had for each other off the track. It’s impossible to forget Max’s defense in Austin, for which Lando was penalized, and other even tougher moments in Mexico, which resulted in Verstappen being given a 20-second penalty.
Verstappen: “Too harsh on Norris? These are normal situations when fighting for the title”
After the race, especially after the Mexican one, Lando Norris had complained a lot about his rival’s behavior, triggering comments from fans on social media. Interviewed on the podcast ‘Talking Bull’, the four-time world champion tried to close the topic once and for all: “Lando and I have always gotten along very well. Sometimes, it’s normal for situations on track to make the atmosphere between us a bit tense, but these are things that don’t matter once we take off our helmets.”
“When we’re in the car, we always try to do our best to get the best possible result. We’re fighting to become world champions, so incidents like the ones we experienced this year are completely normal,” he concluded, as reported by ‘GPBlog.com’.
After clearing up the relationship with his friend and rival, Max Verstappen also commented on the most active fans on social media: “Social media always amplifies everything. There are so many idiots on those platforms. Everyone has something to say, something to complain about. I just think it’s better to ignore that kind of thing,” he concluded.
