Max Verstappen delivered a stunning performance today in his first race driving a Ferrari 296 GT3 in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS), securing victory in spectacular fashion. Starting from third on the grid, Verstappen quickly took the lead and built a commanding advantage of over a minute within the first two hours, showcasing consistent lap times and excellent car control. After completing the opening stint, he handed the wheel to his young teammate Chris Lulham, who maintained the lead through the second part of the race, crossing the finish line with more than 20 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Following this success, Verstappen is now seeking new challenges and has expressed interest in endurance racing events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Fans push for Le Mans appearance
The victory in the GT category has sparked excitement among fans, who are eager to see Verstappen take on the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. While there are logistical challenges, the possibility remains open for the future. The 2026 Le Mans race coincides with the F1 Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, which could complicate scheduling. However, Verstappen has shown interest in exploring more endurance events, mentioning the Nürburgring 24 Hours as a potential next step in his GT racing journey.
Back to F1 championship focus
After the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, Max Verstappen returned to the hunt for the 2025 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship. Red Bull is focused on maximizing race wins in the remaining rounds, with Verstappen currently 69 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri. With seven races still to go, the championship remains open, and McLaren must defend their current top positions to maintain the advantage they have built so far. Meanwhile, Verstappen balances his F1 commitments with the growing possibility of participating in endurance racing challenges in the near future.
