Max Verstappen explains why he signed new Red Bull deal until 2030: “We want to return to the top”. Max Verstappen makes decisive Red Bull choice after months of uncertainty.

Max Verstappen, 2024 F1

Max Verstappen has signed a new contract with Red Bull that will keep the four-time Formula 1 world champion at the Milton Keynes team until the end of 2030. The Dutch driver will not only remain with Red Bull for 2027 but has extended his commitment for several more seasons, ending months of uncertainty surrounding his long-term future.

It is a major vote of confidence in Red Bull and team principal Laurent Mekies, particularly after a move away from Milton Keynes had appeared possible only a few months earlier. Max Verstappen and Laurent Mekies both addressed the new agreement following its announcement, which came ahead of the final Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.

Max Verstappen commits to Red Bull until 2030

“I am really pleased with the contract extension,” Max Verstappen said. “We have the best people and I’m excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again. This remains the ultimate goal that all of us have been working towards and will continue to pursue.

“I want to thank Red Bull, Laurent and everyone at Red Bull for the trust they put in me. I have always said it: the team is like a second family for me and I feel very at home. I came to the team hoping to be able to win races. What we went on to achieve together has been simply wonderful. We have shared many incredible moments and won four World Championships.”

Max Verstappen’s new contract provides long-term stability as Laurent Mekies oversees Red Bull’s rebuilding programme and attempts to return the team to regular race-winning and championship contention.

Max Verstappen praises Laurent Mekies and Red Bull’s vision

Max Verstappen stressed that continuing with the organisation where he has spent his Formula 1 career carries particular emotional significance. The Dutch driver also expressed his confidence in the direction established by Laurent Mekies since the Frenchman took charge of the team.

“To continue this journey with the same team that I have been with my whole career is really special, and it is something I have always wanted to do,” Max Verstappen continued. “Getting to work with Laurent for over a year has also been great. I see the clear vision he has for the team.

“Everyone in Milton Keynes believes in what we are building, and I am looking forward to the next chapter, fighting for more victories and competing for championships as we continue to shape the future of this team.”

The timing of the announcement also carries special meaning for Max Verstappen because it coincides with Formula 1’s final visit to his home circuit. The Dutch champion has already paid tribute to his Zandvoort supporters ahead of the farewell weekend.

“To make this announcement during the last Grand Prix at Zandvoort is a great moment for me as well,” Max Verstappen added. “Hopefully we can give the fans a special send-off for the final race.”

Laurent Mekies hails Max Verstappen as F1’s best driver

Laurent Mekies described the renewal as significant not only for Red Bull but also for Formula 1 and motorsport more broadly. The Red Bull team principal highlighted the achievements, trust and shared ambition that have shaped the partnership.

“Having Max continue with us and retaining the best driver on the grid is fantastic news for everyone at Red Bull, as well as Formula 1 and motorsport as a whole,” Laurent Mekies said. “Very few partnerships in sport achieve what Max and this team have.

“Since the very beginning, Max has embodied everything that makes Red Bull special: uncompromising competitiveness, relentless determination and the courage to challenge convention. His impact on our team and on Red Bull’s motorsport story has been transformational, and he has been fundamental to everything we have accomplished together.”

Laurent Mekies believes the contract reflects the strength of the relationship established between Max Verstappen and the team through championship success, difficult periods and intense battles on the circuit.

“The decision to continue our journey together is rooted in the trust Max and the team have built over many years, as well as Max’s confidence in our people, our culture and our vision for the future,” Laurent Mekies explained. “Forged through championship-winning success, intense battles and challenging moments alike, this relationship has only grown stronger, making it one of Formula 1’s greatest success stories.”

Red Bull targets more wins and championships with Max Verstappen

Despite everything Max Verstappen and Red Bull have already achieved together, Laurent Mekies made clear that neither side considers the partnership’s work complete. Returning to the front remains the central objective as the team shapes its future around its four-time world champion.

“But we are not done yet,” Laurent Mekies concluded. “There are more races to win, more milestones to achieve and more history to write. Together, we continue to raise the bar with the same determination that brought us to the top of the sport and an even greater faith in what we can achieve.

“Much will evolve as we move forward, but our ambition remains unchanged: united by one direction, one vision, one team.”
