Max Verstappen demands perfection from Red Bull in Qatar: “We have to be better than perfect”. Max Verstappen pushes Red Bull to follow his lead at the Qatar Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen, Red Bull 2025 F1

Max Verstappen arrives in Qatar wound up like a spring. The Dutch driver wants the Formula 1 drivers’ title with Red Bull, and he intends to fight for it by putting every one of his countless strengths on display. A little help from McLaren would certainly come in handy, while the Milton Keynes outfit must optimise every single second on track if they want to keep believing in this remarkable comeback. Max knows exactly what must be done and wants the team to follow him like a shadow, supporting every decision he makes.

The character lesson Max delivered to Lando

During the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the talented driver from Hasselt put together an extremely convincing weekend. It was a performance of enormous solidity, taking advantage of every opportunity offered by the tricky conditions. This began in qualifying, where he avoided mistakes in his RB21 and secured second place behind the championship leader. It was a display of cold mental control that he then repeated over the full 300-kilometre race distance.

Max managed to pass his direct rival at the start, while the Englishman once again let nerves get the better of him at the crucial moment. From the lights out onwards, Max delivered a practically perfect race, showing flawless pace management thanks to superb tyre handling. In the second stint, Lando’s furious charge did not put him under pressure; he simply stuck to his race plan without a single misstep.

When the McLaren driver began closing in, Max Verstappen made it clear that he would never catch him by increasing his pace immediately. It was a brilliant performance, strengthened further by Red Bull’s continuous excellence in live operations. And then, after the race, came the icing on the cake: the double McLaren disqualification, which allowed him to cut the gap in the standings. The 24-point deficit remains significant, but it is far from impossible to overturn.

To close that gap, however, Max Verstappen will need a little help from the Woking-based team, which has often shown that in the most complicated moments it can lose concentration and fall into mistakes. This is exactly the scenario Max hopes to exploit, aiming to pressurise Norris psychologically. That is why the Dutch driver’s recent comments have been aimed at provoking and increasing the pressure on the McLaren star.

Verstappen is clear: we must be more perfect than perfection itself

As the 22nd weekend of the 2025 season approaches, the four-time Formula 1 world champion has a very precise idea of the mentality he must maintain. He is fully aware—more clearly than McLaren—that there is no room for error. This is the kind of environment in which the Red Bull phenomenon excels, becoming even stronger than usual.

Max pointed out that his progress in the standings does not alter the team’s philosophy under new leadership from Laurent Mekies. The 27-year-old Belgian-born driver explained that the entire group remains focused on maximising the performance of the RB21, with the constant goal of collecting the highest possible number of points.

Qatar hosts the final Sprint weekend of the season, and Max intends to seize the chance to score additional points, which he considers far too valuable to waste. He wants to do so by imposing on the team the need for flawless execution in every moment of the event. He then discussed the complexities of the Lusail circuit, noting that the high temperatures create major challenges.

Qatar GP: Max Verstappen’s determination is absolute

He referred in particular to the delicate balance required in tyre management. Precision and strategic planning therefore become essential, especially given the two mandatory pit stops that must be integrated into the race. In this context, Max emphasised that every detail—from car balance to the pit stop sequence—must be executed with the highest possible attention.

His determination to use every weapon available until the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi is unmistakable. What remains to be seen is whether, starting in Lusail, the RB21 will truly be able to match the performance level of the MCL39. Without that, even perfect execution and the ability to convert every opportunity into concrete results may not be enough to keep the world title dream alive.

One thing is certain: nobody inside Red Bull will dare deliver anything less than 110% this weekend. When Max Verstappen is this locked in, the entire garage moves as one – and the rest of the paddock feels the heat.
