Max Verstappen’s straightforwardness is one of his best qualities. The Dutch driver recently addressed the changes that the Formula 1 calendar has undergone in recent years. He has often expressed his opposition to the high number of races: “If it were up to me, the calendar would be very different and would also have fewer races,” he said to GPBlog.
This topic gained attention after news emerged that Thailand wants to join the calendar starting in 2028. The four-time world champion has nothing against countries seeking to enter the Circus, but he is disappointed about how these new venues replace historic circuits. For Verstappen, those classic tracks deserve a special status: “There are many circuits that deserve a special status. They should never leave the calendar nor be part of future rotations. They are the history of F1. For me, Spa-Francorchamps, Zandvoort, Silverstone, Imola, Suzuka, and Brazil deserve this status,” he added.
Max Verstappen’s words reflect a sentiment shared by many fans who see these circuits not only as race venues but as much more. The call for tradition represents a necessary balance that Formula 1’s leadership should not lose sight of.
