From the Media Day of the Miami Grand Prix, the usual dynamics emerge, as is often the case in Formula 1. Some drivers speak about expectations for the race, others focus on upgrades, with standard phrases floating between self-motivation and cautious optimism. Then there are those who break the pattern entirely with direct, uncompromising statements that stand out from the rest.
Gp Miami – Verstappen dismisses FIA rule changes
The Florida Grand Prix marks the debut of the new regulatory adjustments introduced by the FIA in an attempt to solve the issues that became apparent during the opening races of the season. However, Max Verstappen’s assessment is immediately blunt, as he fully rejects the impact of these changes and shifts attention toward the long-term horizon of 2027.
“These changes are a tickle, I am hopeful that next year much bigger changes can be introduced. In the end, it is a very political sport, I think everyone did their best to try and do something, but it will not change the world. The situation is complicated, it is still not what we need to really go flat out. As I said, it is complicated to get everyone to agree.”
These words from the Red Bull driver effectively close the door on expectations that the new FIA measures could provide an immediate solution to the problems seen in the early stages of the season. From Miami onwards, therefore, the usual pattern is expected to continue, perhaps with only minor adjustments, especially in qualifying, as also hinted at by Charles Leclerc, although in a different tone.
Red Bull – Verstappen: future, retirement and the Lambiase case
At the end of his media session, the four-time World Champion also addressed the topic of his future. The Dutch driver confirmed that there are no new developments regarding a potential retirement, explaining that he has recently been focused on other priorities. The statement remains intentionally open-ended, leaving room for interpretation and fueling the idea that Verstappen is not ruling out alternative scenarios, including a possible early exit from Formula 1.
Max Verstappen also commented on the departure of his long-time race engineer, Giampiero Lambiase, clarifying that there is no connection between this situation and his thoughts about the future.
“There is no resentment, I look ahead and I just continue doing my job.”
What emerges is a familiar portrait of Verstappen: sharp in his assessments but highly pragmatic, capable of cooling down the hype surrounding Miami and the latest regulatory updates. Now, as always, the track will provide the first real answers starting from the opening free practice session (18:00 CET, as noted).
