Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet Expecting a Baby
One of the legends surrounding Enzo Ferrari is the idea that his drivers lost tenths of a second after the birth of each child. While this may have been relevant in the early days of motorsport, it has largely lost its significance in today’s highly technological F1. However, there is curiosity in the paddock about whether Max Verstappen will change his approach to racing after the birth of the baby he is expecting with his partner, Kelly Piquet.
According to rumors from recent days, the 27-year-old four-time world champion could become a father around the time of the first race of the new season, the 2025 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on the weekend of March 16. Speaking to the Dutch newspaper *Algemeen Dagblad*, Max Verstappen confirmed that, unless unexpected circumstances arise—such as a FIA suspension (he is low on license points and in open conflict with the Federation due to his use of foul language in press conferences)—he will be on the grid as usual, driving his new Red Bull.
Max Verstappen Doesn’t Plan to Change His Approach
“It shouldn’t be born before the start of the season,” said Max Verstappen. “Skipping a race? It’s possible, but I don’t think I will. This is part of being a Formula 1 driver. If it happens (the birth during a race weekend), it happens. There’s absolutely nothing I can do about it. Unfortunately, Formula 1 drivers don’t get time off for these things, but at the same time, it’s not me who has to give birth.” He then jokingly added, “Or maybe I’ll be suspended because I have too many penalty points for swearing.”
Max Verstappen also does not expect the birth of his child to change his approach to racing: “To be honest, I hope it doesn’t change much.”
