Martin Brundle’s 2026 F1 forecast: Oscar Piastri ready to bounce back after title heartbreak. Oscar Piastri could be one of the standout drivers in 2026.

F1 | Prediction from the UK: a driver “seeking revenge” in 2026

Sky Sports UK has turned its attention to the 2026 Formula 1 season, focusing in particular on a driver who could be seeking revenge in the new year.

F1 is preparing to officially return to the track in 2026. The closed-door tests in Barcelona have already concluded, while the next sessions in Bahrain and then the first race in Melbourne are eagerly awaited. According to Martin Brundle, one of the drivers to watch next year could be Australian Oscar Piastri.

The 2026 season could mark a new chapter in Oscar Piastri’s career. After seeing the 2025 world title slip away in favor of his teammate Lando Norris, the Australian is ready to turn disappointment into motivation. Martin Brundle is convinced of this, seeing the young McLaren driver as one of the most anticipated protagonists of Formula 1’s new regulatory era.

2025 was an intense championship for Oscar Piastri, who was in the title fight for much of the year and managed to secure six wins compared to Lando Norris’ five before the summer break. In the second half of the season, however, Norris’ comeback and Max Verstappen’s return to top form shifted the balance, leaving Oscar Piastri in third place in the final standings.

Pain as fuel for 2026

With 2026 on the horizon and a technical revolution ready to reshuffle the cards, Martin Brundle believes that last year’s experience will be a key step in the Australian driver’s development. Speaking to Sky Sports F1, the former British driver had no doubts.

“To be honest, I think he’ll be back for revenge. Last year was partly painful, partly brilliant for him. He learned a lot. I believe it’s openly acknowledged that on low-grip circuits he doesn’t get the maximum from the car and the tires, so he knows he has to make up for that,” he said.

According to Martin Brundle, Oscar Piastri’s ability to analyze his own limitations could make all the difference next season, especially considering his strongest performances in 2025. “But some of the wins he achieved were so dominant, so impressive. I think he will take a lot from that. I’m sure it was painful for him in the end, and I think it will be a decisive factor.”

Brundle’s final verdict: high expectations

Martin Brundle’s final judgment is clear and filled with expectation: “We’ve watched him closely. He’s an incredibly bright kid and clearly competitive. He’s a hard worker. I think he’ll come back having made a big step forward.”

Martin Brundle’s 2026 F1 forecast: Oscar Piastri ready to bounce back after title heartbreak

Martin Brundle’s assessment of Oscar Piastri’s mindset therefore suggests that the intra-team rivalry at McLaren will be one of the most explosive storylines of the 2026 season. By identifying the “pain” of a lost championship as a primary motivator, Brundle highlights the psychological evolution required for a young star to transition into a consistent title contender during a major technical reset. While Piastri’s raw speed was evident throughout his six wins in 2025, his success in the new era will depend on whether he has successfully addressed his tire management issues on low-grip surfaces to match the relentless consistency of Norris and Verstappen.

Martin Brundle believes that Oscar Piastri will use the lessons learned from a bittersweet 2025 season to mount a formidable “revenge” campaign in 2026, positioning himself as a top contender for the championship.
