Many support Red Bull’s decision to fire Christian Horner: “It was time for him to go”. Christian Horner’s shock dismissal as Red Bull Racing team principal has received widespread support within F1.

Following the shocking and unexpected dismissal of Christian Horner from his position as Team Principal of Red Bull Racing, many within the Formula 1 paddock and the broader motorsport community have come out in support of the team’s decision.

It was a move that stunned many observers, as no one truly anticipated that Red Bull would part ways with one of the most iconic and influential figures in its history. Christian Horner was the very individual who took the reins of the Milton Keynes-based team during its early days and guided it all the way to the pinnacle of four-wheel motorsport, securing multiple Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships. And yet, despite this legacy, there is a growing consensus that removing Horner may have been the right call.

Tensions within the Red Bull Racing camp had been simmering for over a year, ever since a scandal emerged involving Christian Horner on a personal and professional level. The incident cast a long shadow over the team’s operations and internal dynamics. As the months passed, the situation deteriorated further due to a noticeable decline in the car’s performance. The drop in competitiveness became evident during the second half of the previous season and was confirmed once again during the first part of the current 2025 Formula 1 campaign.

Within this increasingly difficult context, Christian Horner became the target of growing criticism—both from voices within the Formula 1 paddock and from certain members within the Red Bull organization itself. Over time, a clear internal division took shape within the team. A faction reportedly began to emerge from within Red Bull Racing, actively calling for Horner’s departure, believing that his presence was doing more harm than good. After prolonged internal friction, the Austrian and Thai leadership at Red Bull finally made the definitive decision to remove him from his operational responsibilities.

Across the wider Formula 1 world, numerous figures have welcomed the news, considering it both overdue and necessary for the long-term health and competitiveness of the team.

Among the most outspoken critics was former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher. Speaking to Sky Deutschland, Ralf Schumacher did not hold back in his analysis. “What do I think of Horner’s departure? In recent years, there was a major internal issue within the Red Bull team. His personal situation became too overwhelming and led to several key individuals leaving the Milton Keynes organisation. Quite simply, he was no longer able to rebuild the team or attract new talent to replace those who left.”

The German former driver continued, “That’s why it was time for him to go. The results were not coming. He tried to reorganize everything internally, and he even accepted that Adrian Newey—one of the greatest technical minds in Formula 1 history—left the team, thinking he could still succeed without him. But he couldn’t. As we can clearly see now, Red Bull Racing is regressing.”

Christian Horner’s dismissal marks a dramatic turning point for Red Bull Racing, one of the most successful teams in the history of modern Formula 1. While the British team principal leaves behind a long list of achievements and accolades, his departure also highlights the growing internal pressure and performance issues that the team has been grappling with in recent months.

Whether this change will be the start of a new chapter of renewal or the beginning of a deeper crisis remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: many within the sport believe it was a decision that Red Bull had to make.
